LIVE ACTION AND DESIGN | BROADCAST DESIGN | TYPOGRAPHY AND DESIGN FOR MOTION
Prologue was once again approached by the event’s producers to do work on the 84th Annual Academy Awards. In total, Prologue produced eight separate pieces for the event, which included a list of Best Motion Picture nominees, and pieces that examined the people behind the nominations in such categories as Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Visual Effects, Best Make-Up Design, Best Costume Design, and the annual In Memoriam segment. Our Best Picture Nominee piece featured a black and white film reel effect, giving the impression of an old picture house presentation. The film names come and go between negative stills, displaying the producer credits alongside them. Prologue directed a series of live-action interviews for many of the segments, getting the points of view from the actors and production staff of the films. Sequences such as the Best Musical Score piece featured our own unique animations that brought to light the integral role that the music itself played, as the viewer sees sheet music layered on top of live action, as the individual notes dance along with the live-action. Our In Memoriam piece featured black and white photographs superimposed over a white background, as the subject’s name and occupation gets displayed. Several of the subjects are accompanied by audio and interview footage, such is the case with Cliff Robertson, Laura Ziskin, and Elizabeth Taylor.
