Legendary game designer and director Hideo Kojima, the mastermind responsible for delivering the Metal Gear Solid franchise to the world, returns to the industry that he has redefined time and again. His next endeavor will be the open world, PlayStation 4 exclusive, Death Stranding.
Kojima and Prologue’s Kyle Cooper share a bond that extends beyond their creative efforts, a profound friendship that began more than 15 years ago. Their mastery of the visual arts is reflected in their work, collaborating on Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
To date, we know that Death Stranding features motion capture performances from some of the most talented artists in the world, including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelson, and visionary film director Guillermo Del Toro. Although the plot is being kept under wraps, Kojima has stated: “The story is about connections, what you call ‘strands’ in psychology – how people are connected.” At E3 2016, the first teaser trailer premiered for the upcoming Kojima Productions epic. Prologue designed the typography and main title for the teaser reveal, which is also featured in the 2016 Game Awards Announcement Trailer. The elegant typography is animated with ‘strands’ falling from the letterforms, a direct parallel to the allegory Kojima describes. Its as if the type embodies the ability to tether, one of the key aesthetics presented in the two trailers. Currently “In Production”, the world awaits the next title from the first video game auteur.
