NBC / NHL
Prologue created the opening graphics package for NHL 36, a documentary series from NBC Sports Network. Each episode of the show follows an individual athlete for the 36 hours leading up to game time. NHL 36 has featured such NHL stars as Patrick Kane, Patrice Bergeron, and James Neal. Our sequence presents a montage assembled from layered textures, motion graphics, and live-action footage. Rather than depending on rapid MTV-style camera cuts, in this case the sense of urgency and dramatic pacing is led by the dynamic animation of the motion graphics themselves. Numbers designed with the look and feel of a scoreboard come into focus as they swiftly flash towards “36,” emphasizing from a competitor’s point of view how quickly time passes in the final moments and hours before a game— and the fact that an athlete’s focus must intensify accordingly. Our closing shot allows the audience a moment to catch its breath as the camera holds, our logo animates in, and we watch the hockey player in full gear on his march toward the ice.
