Prologue’s opening title sequence for The Painted Veil adeptly captures the themes central to the film through a beautiful blend of altering images. For example, one image of a flower slowly morphs into recognizable Chinese artifacts. This animation is overlayed on top of flower petals that slowly take the shape of cholera-infested waters. These images foreshadow the fragility of life, a withering relationship, and the film’s setting in China. Prologue made the animations for this sequence, in addition to finding appropriate archival footage, and creating the typography for the titles.
